"Growing up in Cameroon as a young girl, I loved watching movies. All of a sudden in the 90s when the home video thing in Nigeria kicked off, I was seeing all these people I could relate to. 


That's how my interest in acting sparked up. I could relate with their culture and they looked like me. Being in Cameroon, I kept going for auditions and doing plays and traveled out of the country but I always wanted to come to Nigeria to pursue a career in acting. As it is in Africa today, Nigeria is truly the entertainment hub, in my opinion. That's why I'm here". - ENews (2018)

In an interview with A-Choice Magazine, Cameroonian actress Shaznay Okawa chronicled her journey to fame in Nollywood.

" Breaking into the Nigerian film industry has actually been a journey and it's still a journey. While I was in Houston... I was taking part in a lot of Nigerian stage play productions, some small movie productions while I was working and schooling at the same time. So back then, we had a lot of film producers from Nigeria coming to Houston to work so that’s how I started having connections to see how I could come back to Africa and star filming. 

So, I had the opportunity to shoot a movie with Frank Rajah back in 2013 in Atlanta. So from then I had an opportunity to come back to Nigeria in 2014 and shoot my first Nigerian movie Iyore with Rita Dominic and Joseph Benjamin. From then, I just started doing different stuff and by God’s grace, I have been blessed to do a whole lot of lead roles from then on. 

So basically, I started my Nollywood career in 2014, so that’s how I broke into the Nigerian film industry. I broke into the industry with the movie Iyore. It did well in cinemas at that time and it’s also actually on Netflix right now. That was my breaking into Nollywood movie, Iyore"

Okawa Shaznay is a Cameroonian actress in Nollywood. She hails the North West region.

She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Texas Southern University in Houston,Texas, USA.

 Her first breakthrough in Nollywood was her role in the blockbuster movie "Iyore" also starring Rita Dominic and Joseph Benjamin. 

Okawa Shaznay has also gained considerable prominence with her leading role in the 2016 hit TV series "Delilah". She won the Exquisite Lady of the Year (ELOY) award for TV Actress of the year in 2016 for her role in Delilah. 

She presently one of the most sought-after and bankable Nollywood actresses on YouTube.
